3 sound composition

I began by listening to the morning sounds of the barn, my happy place. I recorded various sounds that I hear every day but often don’t consciously notice. When I got home, I listened back to the recordings and labeled each one, such as “chew,” “tractor,” and “free lunge.” There are eight raw recordings, all of which were manipulated in the final composition.

I structured the track in the order I typically hear the sounds each day, creating a narrative. Through experimenting with volume, layering, splicing, looping, and repetition, the final track emerged. I am emotionally attached to each of these sounds, and listening to the result puts a smile on my face.

This process helped me better understand the emotional and expressive potential of sound-based art. I can see how this approach could support students in exploring their interests in new ways in the art room, especially when paired with visual elements in a multimodal project.
