10 2D Fabrication

Kate Scott and I paired up for this assignment. With the holidays this week and the fact that I live pretty far from campus, we’re planning to produce the final work during our time slot with Bubbles before class.

Since this is our first time working with this material, we wanted to keep the form simple but still interesting. Our idea was to focus on a few basic shapes (two triangles and a square), connected by a continuous line drawing that runs across and interacts with the surfaces.

I made a prototype out of thin cardboard.

Kate then digitized it

Some trial and error:

We accidentally cut slits into both the square and the triangles, although only the square required them for proper alignment. Fortunately, the slits we made were too narrow for the material to fit properly. To resolve this, we created a new square with larger slits (seen in the photo below in the top left shape), allowing it to fit over the smaller, unnecessary slits in the triangles.
