Looking Back
Original learning objectives I posted at the start of this course:
a) Through this class, I hope to reduce my frustration with digital media and strengthen my limited understanding of how it works.
b) I would like to come to see the value and unique possibilities that technology offers as an artistic medium.
c) I would like to become comfortable enough with technology as a medium to consider its beneficial use in my future art classroom.
I feel I have successfully achieved all the course objectives I set for myself in the beginning of the semester. Initially, I saw digital art as my least favorite artistic medium and felt somewhat nervous about using unfamiliar digital tools. The hands-on coursework provided an opportunity to learn about and experiment with these digital mediums, slowly reducing that nervousness. Through the hands-on projects, digital stewardships, reflections and making connections activities within each module, I gained a much clearer understanding of technology's potential as an artistic medium. This shift in perspective means I can now think about how to effectively incorporate these aspects into future lesson plans. This class has introduced me to a new approach of creating and problem solving, skills that I will be able to share to the benefit of my future students.
Looking back via taking a “selfie”:
One thing I really appreciate about the TC approach to learning is the importance and value placed on the process. While the final project outcome of each module was significant, showing my thought process and the challenges I overcame were equally as valuable. With each submission I explained how I got there linking/ integrating new vocabulary associated with the medium. In the face of difficulties encountered I found multiple possibilities to resolve the issues (debugging) and I persevered through the work while eliminating carelessness.
